The 9 times table has a finger trick. Hold up both hands, lower the finger corresponding to the number you are multiplying by 9, and count the fingers on either side. For 4×9, lower your 4th finger leaving 3 on the left and 6 on the right for 36. Learning in groups is effective. Many children find success with visual patterns on a hundred square and with skip counting chants.
